Don't harm your feet with high-heeled shoes

Oh no... heels again.
As spring slowly approaches, we tend to shed our heavy footwear and opt for high heels. But do we realize that our body is one long kinetic chain?

Indeed, the balance is disrupted by wearing heels, causing this chain to move in ways that negatively impact our joints, muscles, and posture. Let’s first take a look at what happens to our chest when we decide to wear heels. Upon putting them on, our chest is pushed forward in an unnatural way, disturbing the natural curvature of the spine. Naturally, it is shaped like the letter "S", but with high heels, the back bears much more of the load.

Pain in the lower back and tendons

Let’s go lower, because high heels can cause the lumbar spine to start giving us many problems. High heels, like in the case of the chest, push the lower back forward. This can cause pain to radiate to the lower parts of our body. Long-term wearing of heels can eventually affect our body’s largest tendon, the Achilles tendon. It turns out that the Achilles tendon becomes tense every time the foot is placed into a heeled shoe. This can lead to its excessive wear, and eventually… tearing. If high heels have been close to you so far, pay attention to whether your calves are overly tense. If so, it might be worth not only switching to flat shoes but also visiting a physical therapist or relaxing your legs with a massage.

Ankles, oh those sprains…

Unfortunately, the disorders created inside our body are not the only problems that may arise from wearing high heels. Wearing heeled shoes significantly increases the likelihood of ankle sprains compared to wearing sport, flat shoes. It’s easier to trip or lose balance on an uneven surface. If wearing heels is really important to you, remember that you can always treat them as a changeable item in your wardrobe. Choose the lesser evil and wear them only for short periods, such as for a dinner at a restaurant where you won’t need to walk much.

Unwanted calluses

Many people may think they wear high heels to make their body look better. However, this is just one side of the coin. From the other side, keratin, the building block of our skin, nails, and hair, accumulates in one place and causes the skin to become hard and unpleasant to touch. It may happen that this problem (despite short-term solutions such as a visit to the beautician) will continue. This will lead to the need for a consultation with a doctor.

Long-term solution – healthy shoes

There is, however, a completely natural approach that benefits our body’s development. It will help our body develop in the right way. These are, of course, barefoot shoes with a flat sole. Ideally, breathable, made from lightweight materials, and with a flexible zero-drop sole. What does that mean? You know us – "zero drop" shoes have a very thin, almost imperceptible sole, which ensures the use of the whole foot surface. So, one could say that these shoes provide a natural massage for the feet and take care of the health of the entire body. It’s worth choosing them in the spring and counteracting the effects of wearing high heels.
