How to take care of your feet in summer

Summer – a time for holidays, holidays, travel near and far. During this period, our feet need special attention. Here are some tips to help your feet survive the heat, but also to fully experience the benefits of summer – the only time of the year when we so often go barefoot.

Feet breathe – let’s not make it harder for them

Above all, feet need freedom, air and coolness in summer. Don’t condemn them to full shoes or socks. It is best to go barefoot or in sandals as much as possible during this time. If you choose the latter option, pay attention to the lining of the sandals and how well they stay on your feet. It is important that the material is made of a natural fabric that prevents your feet from slipping when they get sweaty. In this situation, the natural hemp material used for the Caballo Blanco sandals, which also has antibacterial properties, will work well.

Of course, we cannot always wear sandals or go barefoot. In this case, our feet
will be grateful if we put on soft, light and airy footwear. We recommend the
Explorer model in the summer version.

How to prevent foot sweating?

Feet in footwear can sweat more, so it’s worth using the right socks in the first place. Reject those made of artificial fabrics and opt for nature. Socks made of bamboo fibres are so thin and nice to the touch that they work very well in hot weather. Alternatively, we can use silk socks or simply cotton socks. To ensure proper circulation to the feet, let’s only buy socks that are pressure-free.

As an additional protection against foot perspiration, we can add talcum powder to our socks. It can be purchased inexpensively at the chemist’s or drugstore. Talc absorbs moisture, which not only gives us greater comfort, but also protects us against foot skin fungus.

It is also worth using talc if you use toe separators – special insoles correcting toe position and helping to get rid of ailments such as hallux valgus, hammer toes or clawed toes.

Feet need sun protection

The delicate skin of the upper part of the feet, more than other parts of the body, is exposed to sunburn. When sunbathing on the beach, let’s cover our feet with sand, and when cycling in the sun, let’s rather wear such footwear that will cover this sensitive skin surface. When applying sunscreen, let’s not skip the feet. If you happen to do so and your skin unfortunately suffers a sunburn, you can help it by applying aloe vera gel or cool compresses.

Why do feet swell in summer?

Our body needs more water in summer. If we do not provide it with enough fluids, the tissues will draw water from the blood vessels and swelling will occur. Feet can also swell after a journey in which we remain seated for most of the time. This condition also affects people with sedentary jobs – for them, it is advisable to use a footrest so that the feet are about 20-30 cm above the ground.

How to get rid of swollen feet?

Drink more water, preferably with lemon juice, which helps with fluid absorption. Put your swollen feet at hip height for a while (when sitting, you can place them on another chair, and when lying down, put pillows under them).

Feet like the coolness of summer

On hot days, let’s give our feet a dip in cool water. They will be lucky if we can provide them with a walk along the shore of the sea or a lake. However, if this is not possible, let’s find a river or stream in our area and head there on a hot weekend to cool off. Ultimately, all you need is a garden pool or a bowl of cool water where your feet can find respite from the high temperatures.

Let’s take care of the health of our feet and our whole body. In the summer, let’s make sure we drink enough water and give our feet proper ventilation and protection from the sun.
