KNOW THE EFFECTS OF WEARING HEELED SHOES
Oh my… those heels again. With spring slowly approaching, we are more and more eager to shed our heavy footwear and decide to put on our stilettos. But are we aware that our body is one long kinetic chain?
Well, by upsetting our balance through wearing heels, this chain undergoes movements that negatively affect our joints, muscles and overall posture. However, let’s first look at what happens to our chest when we decide to wear high-heeled shoes. When we put them on, our chest is pushed forward in an unnatural way , which disturbs the curvature of the spine. Naturally, it is shaped like an ‘S’, but through heels, it is the back that is put under considerable strain.
Pain in the loins and tendons
Let’s go lower, because with heels, it’s the lumbar spine that can start to cause us a lot of problems. As with the chest, high shoes push the lower back forward. This causes pain to radiate to the lower parts of our body. Over time, prolonged walking in heels can make itself felt in our largest tendon in the human body, the so-called Achilles. It turns out that the Achilles tendon gets strained every time the foot is put into a heeled shoe. This can lead to its overuse and this… to rupture. So if you have been close to heeled shoes so far, pay attention to whether the area around your calves is overstretched. If they are: As well as switching to flat shoes, why not see a physiotherapist or relax your legs with a massage?
Ankles, ah those sprains….
Unfortunately, the conditions that form inside our bodies are not the only things that can happen to us when wearing high shoes. When wearing high-heeled shoes, the likelihood of twisting your ankle is significantly higher than when wearing sporty, flat shoes. It’s also easier to trip or get off balance on uneven surfaces. If you’re keen to wear heels, remember that you can always treat them as a changeable item of clothing. Choose the lesser of two evils and only wear them for a short while, e.g. to dinner at a restaurant where you don’t have to walk much.
Unnecessary thickening
Many people may think that they wear stilettos to make their body look better. However, this is only one side of the coin. Looking at it from the other side, keratin, the building block of our skin and hair nails, accumulates in one place and makes the skin hard and unpleasant to touch. It may be that this problem (despite short-term solutions such as visiting a beautician) will persist. This will result in a necessary consultation with a doctor.
A long-term solution – healthy shoes
However, there is an all-natural approach that serves the development of our body. It will make our body develop in the right way. These are, of course, barefoot shoes on a flat sole. Preferably breathable, created from lightweight materials and with a flexible zero drop sole. What does this mean? You know us – zero drop shoes have a very thin, almost imperceptible sole that will ensure your foot works across the entire footprint. So you could say it’s a natural massage for your foot and keeps your whole body healthy. It’s worth betting on this in spring and offsetting the effects of wearing heeled shoes.
